Three questions with Bayden Goddard from BGD Architects
BG: “The 30-metre beach frontage is very rare. It’s a bit of a blessing in that we didn’t have to follow the small block theory on the Gold Coast, where everything is tight or compromised. The outcome, by nature, is that even the half-floor apartments are very wide to start with, which means we can extend the living and bedroom views to the beach.”
BG: "We’ve designed sliding doors that open from a corner, creating the illusion that the corner vanishes. Suddenly, your balcony is an extension of your living space. When the balconies are this wide, they become a true room beyond the glazing. You don’t just look directly at the beach. You have views to the north or south."
BG: "The way Main Beach has changed in the last five years is crazy. Other areas of the Gold Coast are more tourist towns, whereas this is more residential, and it has a village vibe with Tedder Avenue at its heart. Plus, if you want a beachfront, there is very little of it. No one’s making any more. Which is why this site is a miracle."
